Toews Parrot Place
Breeder of Eclectus Parrots,
Pionus Parrots, Parrotlets, Caiques
"Eclectus parrots are
typically not noisy, screaming birds unless the environment and your
management practices develop those behaviors." by Laurella
Desborough

Our babies are lovingly hand-raised by us (Mike, Gwen
and Ryan) in our smoke-free home. They are spoon fed, not crop
fed. This means that we spend more time with them at each feeding.
They are abundance weaned and self-wean when they are ready, usually
around 16-20 weeks. The babies are closed banded around 10 days of
age. If you prefer no band just let us know when you place your
order. We can have the vet micro-chip them at the vet check up for
the extra cost. All our babies are played with regularly and
introduced to a variety of sights and sounds.
They go to their new home with a written Health
Guarantee, a hatch certificate, and a information packet.
All of our babies have been established on nutritious
vegetables, fruit, sprouts, cooked grains, cooked lentil mix and a seed
mix to ensure a foundation of nutrition, variety and stimulation.
We do not recommend Pellets to be their main diet. Eclectus
do best on a no pellet diet. We do understand that there are
times when pellets are helpful, but these times should not be to often.
We allow all our babies to fledge. Fledging is
very important to the baby parrots. They wait until they can fly
to completely wean. I'm sure this is necessary for survival in the
wild. If their wings are clipped they can develop a fear of
falling and can bite to protect themselves. For this and other
reasons we do not recommend clipping their wings as we feel it can
damage their personality. It is up to you to show them the mirrors
and windows, to keep your toilet lid shut, and make sure you only let
them out to fly when it is safe for them to do so.
Article
on wing clipping. We use the Aviator Flight Harness and the
babies have had some time getting used to one.
Never clip only one side as this leads to bad
navigation and could cause the bird to injure itself.
Our baby parrots may be seen by their new owners after
10 weeks of age by appointment only. Because their immune systems
are fragile we ask that you wait until after they are 10 weeks of age.

Shipping: Shipping is $150. (includes
a kennel with perch that you can use when traveling with your pet bird) We
also make wooden crates for the birds to travel in, if you prefer that
let us know. The advantage is that the wooden crate is more closed
in so the bird feels more secure. It stays a better temperature
and is stronger in case the airline stacks something on top of it.
More like the nest box and easier to hide in. If it is a long
flight we recommend the wooden crate.
We recommend you bring your new baby bird to your vet
within the first three days. This way you and your new baby bird
establish a relationship with your vet. Have your vet do the
tests.
If you prefer us to do the vet check we will.
The vet check is an additional $250. This includes check up and
our travel time to Winnipeg. Prices are in Canadian funds.
We can also have our vet do DNA disease testing for Polyomavirus , PBFD,
Psittacosis and Pacheco's if you want. These tests cost extra.
Send us an e-mail with information about yourself and
we will let you know about availability.
If you are interested in a baby parrot please first
read the article, 'Life
with a Parrot' and "A
Parrot's Bill of Rights".
Payment Method
To reserve a baby bird we require a non-refundable deposit. This will come off of the purchase price.
The rest of the purchase price is due on pickup or before shipping. (We
do not accept a deposit to reserve a baby bird we do not have.
This only applies after the baby bird has hatched and we have agreed to
sell the baby bird to you.)
We will e-mail photo updates as well as some online video of your new
baby parrot once we have your down payment.
We recommend you use this waiting time to prepare for
your new pet. Check out our products page, or our links page for
books and articles on parrots. If you are only going to purchase
one book we recommend, "The Companion Parrot Handbook"
by Sally Blanchard. It covers all areas of parrot behavior and
training. Click on the picture below to order books.
The buyer is responsible for all transportation costs
and insurance costs (if available) associated with the delivery of the
baby parrot.
All our baby parrots must be fully paid before leaving
the premises.
You can pay via cash, certified check, money order,
or email money transfer. If you pay with a personal check or
business check, we will wait (approx. 10 days) for the funds to clear
before shipping.

SHIPPING
We have a flat rate for shipping of $150. We
ship throughout Canada by WestJet to all major airports depending
on weather conditions.
The shipping container will be a pet kennel with a
perch inside (unless otherwise requested). This can be re-used for vet visits or other
traveling.
We ship West Jet Priority, this means
the bird(s) should be in your possession anywhere from 15 minutes to no
longer than 1 hour of the plane landing. It depends on the size of
the airport.
All paperwork (hatch certificate, baby growth record,
care pamphlet, Species information, and health guarantee) will also be
sent.
Tell us where your nearest major airport is and we
will check on non-stop flights available.
All agreed-upon information will be confirmed within
24 hours of shipping. You will be contacted with the air bill
number to claim your bird at the airport as soon as possible. We
will also check with you soon after to make sure everything went ok and
that you have your new pet bird.
Health Guarantee
Toews
Parrot Place takes great pride in the babies we raise and guarantee, at
the time of sale, that the bird(s) are in excellent health and disease
free to the best of our knowledge.
Toews
Parrot Place will provide each of our bird(s) with a seven day health
guarantee for PBFD, PSITTACOSIS, POLYOMA, and PACHECOS, non-treatable
pre-existing conditions that effect the health and well-being of the
bird(s) or genetic deformities. This guarantee is only available
PROVIDED you have the bird(s) tested by a QUALIFIED AVIAN VETERINARIAN.
Valid documentation must be provided for verification from the QUALIFIED
AVIAN VETERINARIAN!
Please
make an appointment to visit your avian veterinarian prior to picking-up
your bird, so that the health guarantee will cover the time period
allotted.
This
guarantee is only VALID if the bird(s) are not kept in the same air
space as other birds in your home. For this reason, we are happy
to keep the bird(s) at our facility for one week past delivery date
until DNA disease testing results are determined. The DNA disease
testing will be done at your expense. If we receive verification
that one of the above conditions is diagnosed, YOU agree, at our
discretion, that we will either refund the entire purchase price to YOU,
or replace the bird(s) with another one of the same species, sex (if
known at time of sale) of similar age.
In
the event that you fail to have the bird(s) examined by a QUALIFIED
AVIAN VETERINARIAN within the seven day period, the health and fitness
guarantee stated above is NULL and VOID.
In
the event that the bird(s) die within the seven day guarantee period YOU
must immediately refrigerate (not freeze) the body in a zip lock bag and
deliver it to a QUALIFIED
AVIAN VETERINARIAN or LABORATORY for a necropsy (within 24 hours) to
determine the cause of death.
Refund
or replacement, if any, will be based on the cause of death (PBFD,
PSITTACOSIS, POLYOMA, PACHEOS, NON-TREATABLE PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS
THAT AFFECT THE HEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF THE BIRD(S) AND GENETIC
DEFORMITIES).
No
refund or replacement on inconclusive findings, only on the above
conditions. You MUST submit the leg band back to Toews
Parrot Place along with a written necropsy report or there will be no
refund or replacement.
Toews
Parrot Place cannot be held responsible for the cost of examination,
testing, histopathology or necropsy. Necropsy will only be
covered, if death is caused by any of the conditions stated above.
Avian
Veterinarians
While
we make every effort to ensure our babies are sweet, lovable and
well socialized, there is no guarantee on how they will mature in your
home. You are responsible in the training and behavior of your
bird.
