BIRD
TOYS
is dedicated to searching out safe toys that your birds will
love.

We are proud to carry Oliver's Garden Toys. These
handcrafted toys
are made in Canada by Susan Tuck of Nova Scotia. The
inspiration for her toys is influenced by the nearby fishing and
lumber industries. The toys are introduced
first to Susan's own flock of toy testers. Her flock
includes Oliver, her Congo African Grey, Sassy, her Red-sided
Eclectus, Fagan the Quaker and a small group of lovebirds.
The toys need to pass the test for safety, fun and durability in
order to be passed on to you.
Oliver's Garden uses only the safest parts available including:
-100%
cotton rope which is hand dyed with FDA approved dyes
-
Stainless steel rods
-Nickel
plated hardware which can be changed to all stainless steel
(email for info)
-Natural
woods are harvested on site or from trusted sources. These woods
including willow, dogwood, magnolia, apple, and birch are
seasoned, cleaned and finally baked.
All the toys that are sold are kept in a bird free
environment.
Play Time
Your bird relies on you to set aside time daily for you and your bird to play.
This is a good time to take your bird out of it's cage and bring
some interesting toys with you. Use toys that are new for your bird, or
ones that are only for the time you spend together. Educational
toys are also a good idea for this time together.
Many people use this time to train their birds tricks.
Many birds enjoy clicker training.
Your bird also needs a good variety of safe toys inside it's cage. The toys
should be checked regularly to make sure they are still
safe. Birds can break off pieces making the toys
unsafe. If that happens the broken toy should be
removed.
It's a good idea to have a large variety of toys to
rotate. Birds are intelligent and do get bored with the
same toys.
You should always supervise your birds with new toys to be sure
it is safe for your bird.
Foraging toys are very important for your bird. In the
wild birds spend most of their day foraging. Foraging toys
also offer a diversion for feather pluckers. A foraging tree
is a excellent activity for your bird.
Avoid toys where your bird could get a beak, band or toe caught, such
as a key ring or certain links.
Toys should be checked on a regular basis for wear and
tear. Look for loose threads and clip them. Replace
toys that are worn out.
